Is setting up on F12010 (Game) realistic?

Post

Hey all. Just wondering the above question, as it seems that there are a few setup portions that are counterintuitive. For example weight dist. By moving weight forwards, it increases forwards traction. Maybe true in slow corners, but in the fast stuff, wouldn't that increase the lateral loads that have to be moved by the tyres? And hence create understeer?

Then rearwards bias creates better turn in? Maybe when you're braking+turning at the same time, sure, but otherwise shouldn't a forwards brake bias increase the vertical/normal load on the fronts and create better grip for turning in hard braking zones?

I could go on, but you get the idea. Any takers?

I have to say i dont like it at all. For example i like good turn in and a bit twitchy rear end. So i se the car up with more df, this nearly has no effect at all, so i have to move bias rearwards and decrease front stiffness. I sometimes have that then just the opposite happens.

Also, for example an front wing setting of one higher, balast 80% on the rear i get great turn in, but then when i go to another track it just oversteers like a pig, even when 3 more front df then rear it still oversteers like an pig, so i or have to learn with it or ridiculously set the car up reducing my pace, just to get an car to suit me.

Downforce nearly seems to have no effect at all, you can see different paces on high/low df settings, but you dont feel it. Your car is like an brick on the road, unmovable to any kind of direction, you stick to the road like glue. So fgor example with df settings of 1 i can go 10 seconds slower for example but i do not feel it at all, i do not have the idea that i am driving way too low df.

Just to tell you, the whole game is built artificial, everything is done artificial, nothing in the game seems to be done real time. I would rather pick rFactor in your case, or GTR2 if you want to race with AI.

It is realistic to a certain extent because some tracks suit different cars in different ways, so where you had great balance on one track might mean you have horrible balance in another.

The developers themselves said that the game isn't a hardcore sim, it's more of a almost sim that some guy with a control pad can play. The FFB isn't that great, it's kind of hard to tell when the car is going to spin out.

Playing on Legend difficulty I noticed something, the AI does race you in real time, it's just that the AI has tire simulation and fuel simulation turned off, while you have them on. That is why towards the end of the race, the AI falls flat on it's face. By then you're more on an equal footing, and your superior driving skills can shine.

I noticed by playing on hardest difficulty and experimenting with the simulation settings. By disabling both tyre and fuel simulation I was able to lap the field in a Sauber. Turning them both on and all I could muster was 5th on most races. Turning the fuel on but not the tire simulation, or vice versa certainly makes it more challenging, but not so challenging that I can't fight for the win on occasion.

Turn both on and you need one of the top cars to win, and even then it's pretty challenging. I don't know maybe I'm high, happens.

While setting up the car and finding a specific balance is more driver preference, I'm talking about the actual technicality and physics of the situation. The game doesn't seem to go along the lines of setup physics in real life.

I think they use some cookie cutter values.

I'm pretty sure most f1 cars regularly use more than the allowed -1.5
