Design Challenge for 2013

Post

In lieu of a final draft of regulations for the 2013 season, I wonder what route designers will take.

1. If an inline 4 formula turbo formula is chosen, will the turbo be located on one side along with the intercooler (if permited) or atop the gearbox for a more slender layout and lower polar moment of inertia?

2. Will such turbos be fed via a snorkel (i.e. Peugeot 908 HDI FAP, Audi R15 Plus) or will an intake channel be "shared" with an existing sidepod intake for cleaner airflow to the rear wing?

3. Will "blown" diffusers fall out of style (again) with only one side being able to be "blown," or will a novel layout allow the trend to continue?

4. What sort of engine inclination would be advantageous for CoG or will a straightforward upright position be best?

before seeing the regs we will not know if a very shallow angle V is a possibility for the new regs -which would permit a very short 4 cylinder layout ...
Some guys will always be waiting till the last moment and first make sure they recognise the loopholes or possibilities in exploiting regulations a bit further than others .this seems to be the one area to gain a significant advanatge in a world where nobody is designing their challenger without considerable engineering input...
