We have an Audi TT (1.8 turbo) with a 'remap' and as part of the software we can advance timing.
This cannot be done at specific parts of the rev range, its the whole thing, so if we said + 0.75 thats all through the range.
The car has approx 255 BHP @ 6000 RPM on 98 RON (UK RON, not American) fuel.
We can view the automatic timing retard when the ECU detects knock and this even tells us what RPM its knocking.
So for example its now 0 on all cylinders, we advance by .25 and start so see a few 1's or 2's, advance .50 and we see 4's and 5's
It generally accepted that 6's is the limit. I have no idea what the number actually means though (it says CF next to the number, which I think means correction factor).
We are taking the car for a dyno session and want to use some 'race fuel' and advance the timing. One of these, but we dont know which yet...

The equestion is though, what are the positive and negative effects of advancing the timing?
Will going as far as possible before knock on a higher octane rating always equal more power?
Thanks for any advice.
