How is the cockpit joined to the floor?

Post

Is it joined directly to the reference plane or is it to the a surface on the step plane (50mm higher)? the rules suggest it is to the reference plane but I am unsure. Also, what is the actual height of the cockpit itself, i have it as 655mm, but again, i would really appreciate some clarification, as i am slaving away at realistily modelling my own f1 car chassis, in order to run CFD and gain greater understanding, but the rules do my nut in as they are clearly not worded in real english

Any clearing up would be greatly recieved :D

Have you looked at the diagrams in the FIA regs? I'm sure the cockpit is clearly dimensioned in one of these:

- 2011 F1 Technical Regulations - published on 13.12.2010
- Appendix to the 2010 FIA Formula One Technical Regulations - Published on 11.02.2010

seen the regs too many times
I know it is 550mm deep and have made the template, i was just wondering is it joined to the surface lying on the ref plane or step plane. just got me really confused, as it never really specifies.

We've seen a few pics of floors separate from the bodies in the garages, especially when the press were trying to get pics of the various DDDs.

As I recall the floors are one piece, so they must be bolted to the underside of the survival cell.

The confusing thing is the back of the cockpit is 520mm wide, but surfaces on the ref plane are only 500mm wide max, making it confusing as to where the cockput itself is bolted onto the floor and how.
