Designing fast cars is my job - Rampf
Technical Director Willy Rampf holds a key position in the BMW Sauber F1 Team. The German is responsible for the design of the cars Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica are racing when battling it out for points and race wins.
"You have a lot of responsibility - but a lot of freedom also," says Willy Rampf, who has been enjoying his task since the days when Peter Sauber used to be the Team Principal. "Designing fast cars is my job."
In Canada, he was able to celebrate the first win of a racing car designed under his aegis. "This triumph was a major pleasure and satisfaction," says Rampf, recalling his feelings following the success. "We are making huge efforts to win races, and this victory confirmed that we are on the right path. It provided the entire squad with self-confidence. First of all, however, it was a team result. The car isn't built by me alone - I've got a lot of extremely skilled colleagues."
And what is the BMW Sauber F1 Team's future Technical Coordinator dreaming about? "My dream? I'm living my dream right now," replies Rampf. But there's still one thing he would love to do: a motorbike tour of Lesotho, together with his son. "When I was working for BMW in Africa I made some fantastic tours there. And I absolutely want to repeat that sometime," concludes the 55-year old.
