Heidfeld looking forward to "fantastic racetrack"
Eau Rouge, Blanchimont, La Source - Spa-Francorchamps, the venue for the Belgian Grand Prix, has so many famous turns. However, Nick Heidfeld has another reason to look forward to the coming World Championship race, besides the unique properties of the circuit.
After the new circuit in Valencia, the BMW Sauber F1 Team now travels to Belgium, where a traditional racetrack awaits the team from Munich and Hinwil in the form of the "Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps". "Spa is a fantastic racetrack with unique corners and a very special character," says Heidfeld, describing the winding track that leads the drivers over 7 kilometres through the Ardennes. "Although these days, with the V8 engines, it is no problem taking the Eau Rouge combination in the hollow at full throttle, it remains a standout feature."
Nick also has some tips for the spectators on where to find the most spectacular points at the Belgian Grand Prix: "Compression is absolutely no problem physically, but nevertheless it is a very special sensation. I can well recommend this section for the spectators too. It's very impressive the way the cars come roaring along downhill and then accelerate uphill again."
However, it is not just for the unique properties of the circuit that Nick enjoys returning to Belgium. "In the current race calendar, Spa is the nearest GP circuit to my home town of Mönchengladbach. That is another reason for me to look forward to the Belgian Grand Prix, where I'll be aiming to achieve a good result," explains the 31-year-old.
