Can Hamilton keep his head cool?
Despite missing the chance to extend his lead in the Drivers' Championship and to hold on to the fragile one-point lead in the Constructors' Championship, Lewis Hamilton declared that he will not change his aggressive driving style. Earlier this week, Hamilton already received some heavy criticism from Robert Kubica, but the Briton insists he won't change his ways.
Robert Kubica declared to the German press last week that he believed Hamilton's driving style was too aggressive. The BMW Sauber F1 Team driver declared: "There are two different ways you can drive. You can be aggressive but stay fair. Or you can be too aggressive and too self-confident.
"What Lewis did in Monza, for example, that was too much. He cut in the way of Timo Glock and forced him to go on the grass. And Fernando Alonso had to lift the pedal on the straight because Lewis had crossed his line. That was too much by far.
"It was too dangerous. We did mention this in the drivers' briefing and I think everybody has a similar opinion. But in the end we can talk as much as we want. But if somebody is convinced that he has the right to do so, we have no chance to stop him. That's why we have penalties. In Monza they should have given a penalty to Lewis."
At the Japanese GP, Hamilton proved slightly over-confident and missed his chance to extend his lead in the championship. The Briton started from pole position but consequently lost his good position by braking too late into the first corner. While this was arguably intentional, he still received a drive-through penalty for what happened, even though it happened in the first corner after the start.
Lewis Hamilton said: "You can always look back and say you could have done it differently. I made a mistake and paid for it. You've just got to keep your head up."
Hopefully for the youngster, he can keep his head cool and avoid such incidents or he can again lose his championship title in the final races just like last year.
