Monteiro agitated for Japanese GP
Tiago Monteiro is agitated to get back behind the wheel after his first retirement of the season at the Brazilian Grand Prix two weeks ago. The Jordan rookie suffered a rare engine failure during the Interlagos event, finishing his record of consistent finishes for a rookie driver at 16 races.
Tiago Monteiro “The Brazilian GP leaves a bitter taste and mitigated emotions: on one hand I recorded the best ever grid position by a Portuguese driver, then a gearbox problem caused me to start the race from the pits, then a hydraulic system failure prevented me from seeing the chequered flag."
Tiago Monteiro is impatient to discover Japan and espacially the Suzuka circuit, one of the most technical and physical tracks of the season.
"I have never put a foot in Japan and I am therefore impatient to enjoy this new adventure. I am curious to taste real Sushi!
Like Spa, Suzuka is an extremely technical and demanding layout, and as I have never lapped this circuit, it will be necessary for me to acclimatize and learn it during the opening practice sessions on Friday, which should take me all of the first hour. Narain Karthikeyan already knows the circuit and will obviously get into a good rhythm quicker than me, but I hope that maybe he will be able to help me. Maybe the weather will turn in our favour also as the forecast states that there is a 60% chance of rain on all three days! I want to finish the season on a good note and I am determined to give the best of myself at Suzuka, a circuit where the driver can really make the difference"
