Fisico disappointed
Giancarlo Fisichella, the Italian driver of the Mild Seven Renault F1 Team, claims to be very disappointed after letting slip his second win of the season through his fingers. Fisico was in first position, but in the last lap, Kimi Raikkonen could easily pass him and claim victory.
Interview with Giancarlo Fisichella
Renault has re-taken the lead in the constructors’ championship, but you had to relinquish victory. How are you feeling?
"It was a difficult race. I knew Kimi would be very quick and that he was catching me at the end. Honestly, I was pushing 100% but he was really very quick, especially on the straights. Maybe it was because he had better traction out of the chicane. I did my best though, and it is still good because we are now leading the constructors’ championship again."
Were you worried to see Ralf’s Toyota race into the distance at the start?
"Not really. We thought that they would be doing three stops, and I knew I could get past after the first stops. It was more important to get past Button at the start."
What was the car like?
"I was struggling with the grip out of slow corners, but I think I was competitive in the quick corners. The McLaren was simply quicker, and I couldn’t do a think. At the start of the race, I was running at my pace when the team told me to attack more. I did that, and did it all the way to the finish, but the grip started going away from half distance."
