Future Grand Prix in Rome?
Although Italy already hosts a Formula One Grand Prix in Monza, and previously in Imola as well, there is speculation about a street race in Rome. Maurizio Flammini, president of FG Sport which organises superbike events in Italy reported his interest in a Roman Grand Prix.
In a chat with 'Motorsport Aktuell' he was quoted: "With the new trend for city circuits, there is a chance for Rome, to organize a Grand Prix."
While the idea stands firm and is not new, it is yet to be seen how Monza will be dropped from the calendar in favour of the Roman venue. Monza's long standing tradition, its continued popularity and investments by the local government keeps it firmly in the GP calendar, for now.
