BMW Sauber push for higher minimum weight
After Red Bull Racing F1 Team driver Mark Webber, the BMW Sauber F1 Team is now pushing for a higher minimum weight of F1 cars. Over the winter period, several drivers had to lose weight due to the introduction of KERS this season.
Robert Kubica is a perfect example of the fact that heavier drivers are being punished. In Melbourne, only his colleague Nick Heidfeld will race with the KERS system and this to avoid penalties for the heavier Pole.
BMW Sauber Motorsport Director Mario Theissen said in the Melbourne paddock: "We will bring it up. It is a concern. Having KERS in just one car indicates already that it is not just a KERS issue.
"KERS is ready to race, and I am sure our KERS is on the light side. It is a regulatory issue which penalises big drivers. For the future we would support an increase in minimum weight."
