Dubai Roadshow kicks off in style

The ING Renault F1 Team’s drivers were in Dubai yesterday to officially launch the latest Renault Roadshow extravaganza with a press conference in Downtown Burj Dubai. Set against the stunning backdrop of the world’s tallest skyscraper, race driver Nelson Piquet joined third driver Romain Grosjean and demo driver Adam Khan to talk to about the exciting weekend of activities that lie ahead…

Nelson, are you enjoying visiting Dubai?

"It’s actually my second time here and I have to say it gets better each time I visit. This is probably one of the biggest shows we have done and the setting is great as we have all the hotels and big buildings around us, which will give everybody the chance to see the demos."

Driving on a platform over a lagoon is a first for the Roadshow and you will also be doing it in the dark tomorrow night...

"Yes, it’s strange and I just hope I don’t fall in the lagoon as I’ve only just dried out after the wet race we had in Malaysia! I think doing it in the dark with spot lights will make this event even more special and create a great atmosphere like we had at the F1 night race in Singapore last year."

Romain, you’ve already done your demo in the desert, how exciting was that?

"It was a great idea of Renault to take the car to the desert and do something different. Normally we drive in the middle of the city, but as we are in Dubai it made sense to take the car in to an even more unusual setting and make our visit here more memorable."

Adam, you had your first demo in the F1 car earlier today, are you enjoying the special atmosphere of your first Roadshow in Dubai?

"Absolutely. It’s a lot of fun and the perfect venue to stage such an event. We have lovely weather, spectacular scenery and lots of enthusiastic fans who have come along to see the cars. Hopefully tomorrow we can send them home happy when we do even more demos on the lagoon platform."

Tell us what it’s like to do donuts in an F1 car?

"It’s actually quite an easy thing to do because you have so much power in an F1 car. You just put the car into first gear, let the revs build and release the clutch. They’re always fun to do and the fans enjoy them because it’s something they don’t see very often, not even at a Grand Prix. I’ll do my best to make lots of noise with plenty of donuts when I get back in the car tomorrow."
