No new engine for Alonso this weekend
Fernando Alonso will not use a fresh engine during this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix. Alonso already used his third engine in Malaysia, where he was forced to retire with a failure to his power unit. However, the engine that completed the Bahrain race can be used again for qualifying and Grands Prix and Ferrari confirmed that they will fit this one in Alonso's car in Shanghai.
Luca Marmorini said: "As a precaution, we opted not to use the Bahrain race engines in Australia, but they will be used in China, having concluded that they are fit for purpose, despite what happened at the Sakhir circuit."
This season, each driver may only use 8 engines for the 19 Grands Prix on the calendar. Once the 9th is fitted, the drivers will receive a 10-place grid penalty.
