Pirelli confirm bid for F1 return
Italian tyre manufacturer Pirelli has today confirmed that they will place a bid to rejoin Formula One as a tyre supplier. The FIA is currently looking for a new supplier since Bridgestone will stop its involvement with F1 at the end of 2010.
Pirelli however is not the only company interested in supplying tyres. Michelin is also keen to come back, although it is believed that Michelin would only come back if the FIA steps back from its single supplier policy and allows several suppliers to compete.
A statement from Pirelli reads: "Pirelli communicates its decision to present a technical and commercial offer for supply of tyres to all the teams in the Formula One world championship. The company plans to present the bid to FIA (Federation Internationale de l’Automobile) and FOA (Formula One Administration Limited) by 9 May, the date of the next Formula One Gran Prix to be held in Spain."
