Mosley's new idea's
FIA president Max Mosley may have sparked a controversy which could have many F1 car manufacturers up in arms. Mosley has suggested that the manufacturers should not receive any part of the F1 revenue, starting in 2008.
Mosley believes that only independent teams should be in line to receive money from the F1 revenues from 2008 onwards, and not car manufacturers who are using the sport for promotion. His revelation could not have come at a worst time for the Bernie Ecclestone. Ecclestone, the Formula One supremo, looked set to finally land the last five signatures from the teams outstanding on his five year extension Concorde agreement. Mosley’s idea could have put some fresh doubt in their minds.
The FIA have no real direct power over the commercial side of F1 but it remains to be seen what the result of Mosley’s remarks will be.
Mercedes, BMW, Renault, Honda and Toyota (GPMA) have not responed to the comment directly yet but have released a statement saying they had been surprised by Mosley’s statement as it was not really the place of the FIA to comment on such things.
GPMA spokesman "In view of the EU ruling on the role of the governing body, we are surprised by Mr Mosley's comments. The GPMA remains committed to its strategy and will continue discussions with the commercial rights holder."
