Alonso tops final practice at Hockenheim
Fernando Alonso went fastest during the final practice session ahead of qualifying. On an entirely dry track under sunny skies, the Ferrari driver topped Lewis Hamilton and Sergio Pérez. The session was only cut short by 5 minutes as a big shower entered the track.
At the halfway mark, Alonso took the top of the timesheet by setting the fastest lap of the weekend yet. Of course the conditions have improved drastically as no rain has fallen in the morning. The Spaniard however did note that the softer tyres did introduce a "loose rear" on his Ferrari, especially through turn 15.
10 minutes later, Hamilton sets the best time while Pérez moves up to third, immediately of Webber and Vettel. Interestingly, these times are set on the harder tyre, so it looks like we might get into the same tyre situation as was the case at Silverstone, at least for some of the teams. There, the harder tyre was the most durable while also being the fastest of the two compounds available.
15 minutes from the end, Marussia managed to get Pic's car sorted, allowing his to get some running done in FP3.
A little later, Alonso improved his time again to take the lead again. He remained on top for the rest of the session as rain started to fall 5 minutes from the end, depriving others from improving their times.
