Kristensen takes 9th Le Mans victory with Audi
Tom Kristensen, Loic Duval and Alan McNish have won the 2013 Le Mans 24 hours race in the Audi #2. The Toyota #8 finished in second place, followed by Audi #3.
The winners enjoyed a trouble free race which effectively won them this race. The initially leading Audi #1 in the hands of last year's winners suffered electrical issues late in the evening that put them back. Audi #2 fell back slightly due to a flat tyre the same evening but fought back to get into third place in the last 2 hours.
The Toyota Hybrid TS030 #8 steered by Buemi, Davidson and Sarrazin put up a strong challenged but in the end were a lap short. The team performed strongly but realise the car is not as quick as the Audi R18. The second Toyota was in third until very late in the race but lost a close battle when Lapierre was cought out by the rain 90 minutes from the end. His crash into the tyre wall required extensive repairs that left the car out of contention for the podium.
In LMP2, the field was led by two Morgan - Nissan cars from Oak Racing. The #35 won with two minutes ahead #24.
LM GTE Pro was won by the works Porsche 911 RSR #92 ahead of the #91 from the same team.
LM GTE Am finally was won by The Porsche 911 GT3 RSE #76 fielded by Imsa Performance Matmut.
This 81st edition of Le Mans was however overshadowed by the death of Danish competitor Allan Simonsen who succumbed to his injuries following a crash in the 12th minute of the race.
