Second practice ends with Hamilton ahead of Vettel
Just like in the first practice session, Lewis Hamilton proved fastest around the Circuit de Gilles Villeneuve at Montreal. The Mercedes driver was a few tenths faster than Sebastian Vettel who managed to outpace the second Mercedes of Nico Rosberg.
After a hectic start to the session, with times quickly improving as drivers fitted ever softer tyres, Hamilton put down the marker when he took on the super softs, relegating Nico Rosberg by a demonstrable margin.
As for the men troubled in FP1, Felipe Massa was fortunate to be able to get out immediately as FP2 started. The damage at the rear of his Williams proved less serious than expected, enabling the team to get the car sorted in 2 hours time.
Jenson Button on the other hand had to wait a little bit longer, as McLaren Honda were busy replacing the MGU-H, MGU-K and Turbo with new components, all of which were the 4th new items that got fitted on Button's car this season. The internal combustion engine meanwhile is the one used on Monaco. Once out on track, Button immediately got on with it, eventually setting a best laptime 1.001s down on pace setter Hamilton, good for 7th on the timesheet.
