Vettel trusts Marchionne and Arrivabene
Sebastian Vettel stated that he fully trusts his bosses Sergio Marchionne and Maurizio Arrivabene amid the recent structural changes inside Ferrari. The German is sure his Italian squad is heading into the right direction.
Ferrari announced yesterday that it terminated the contract with its technical director James Allison. It has been long rumoured that the Briton would leave Maranello after his wife died earlier this year.
Asked about the news Vettel did not want to comment the departure.
" Well, not much to add. I think we have stated in the press release what happened.”
Allison was replaced by Mattia Binotto who has worked for Ferrari for many years as motor expert.
“I think Mattia has been in the team for a very long time so he is very experienced and knows the team inside out.”
“Obviously there will be a difference but in the short term it doesn’t change that much.”
Binotto has to get used to his new role rapidly as sweeping changes are looming with the aerodynimical and tyre changes for 2017.
“We are already obviously working flat out on the ’17 car, I think everybody is, the rules are very different,” added Vettel.
“Still there’s stuff I think we can learn from this year, so that’s why I think it would be wrong to forget about this year’s car.”
“So I think still directions are very important heading into next year with the different approach but of course there is a very large group in the factory focusing on next year’s car.”
Many question now how much of an impact Allison’s departure could have and many also doubt the direction Ferrari is taking under the leadership of Marchionne.
Vettel tried to reassure everyone that Ferrari is on course to make gains and fight for titles.
“No, I think we have the right people on board. I think obviously, yeah, it’s been a lot in the press, especially about our president and what he expects from us and so on… “
“I think things are heading in the right direction.”
FIAT and Ferrari president Marchionne openly declared his goals before the start of the season. He wanted Ferrari to triumph in the season-opener Australian GP and also wanted his team to fight for the titles.
Ferrari has failed to win a single race so far, but Marchionne keeps putting serios pressure on his staff.
The quadruple champion does not consider it as a negative pressure, he claimed that he appreciates Marchionne’s approach and involvement.
“I think first of all it’s good to see, as I’ve always said, that he’s involved. Obviously he’s pushing the team very hard, and also in Maranello, he spends a lot of time there.”
”I think he knows what he’s talking about and generally has been trying to understand what’s going on, in the last year in particular.”
Vettel also praised its direct boss, Maurizio Arrivabene who has leading the team since December 2014. He sounded sincere when he claimed that Arrivabene enjoys the support of the entire team.
“I think he knows the business very well and I think he’s doing a very, very good job. That’s how we all feel in the team.”
“He’s our leader, he’s the team principal and we’re happy he’s with us.
