Kovalainen keeps flying

The Renault F1 Team continued its intensive three-day test with a mammoth day for third driver Heikki Kovalainen at Le Castellet. The Finn is Renault’s sole representative this week, and he focused primarily on tyre testing as he racked up a whopping 213 laps on his way to fastest time of the day in 1:04.400.

The day proved productive once again, giving good directions in terms of set-up and tyre choice ahead of the opening European races. Indeed, this has been the test team’s focus throughout the week. “We had a very productive day’s work without any problems at all,” explained Chief Test Engineer Christian Silk. “We continued working through our Michelin tyre test programme, and made more good progress. Heikki was very pleased with the car’s handling and everybody worked extremely hard to get the most out of each and every run. We know how important our work at the tests is for the race team in several weeks’ time.”

The Renault F1 Team’s test programme concludes tomorrow, and will continue after the Australian Grand Prix, from 5 to 7 April at Paul Ricard once more.
