Unknown terrain for Kubica
BMW Sauber F1 Team test driver Robert Kubica is currently experiencing his debut season in Formula One racing. Following two encouraging performances in Bahrain and Malaysia, the young Pole is optimistic for the Australian GP as well.
Robert has already managed to impress Formula One fans by showing excellent performances during his first GP appearances. What makes his achievements at the wheel of the BMW Sauber F1.06 to date even more remarkable is the fact that the driver had competed on the race tracks in Bahrain and Malaysia for the very first time. And the 'Albert Park Circuit' in Melbourne will be the next new territory for Robert to master.
"Melbourne is the third circuit in a row that will be totally new to me," says Robert Kubica. "However, my performances in Bahrain and Malaysia have given me confidence that I can rise to the challenge on basically any track. On the Friday in Sepang I drove more or less an entire GP race distance in extreme climatic conditions without experiencing the slightest problem."
During the third Grand Prix of the year, Robert will once more take to the track in the first two free practice sessions to collect data regarding set-up and tyre choice for the team. "My top priority, of course, is to collect as much information as possible in Melbourne in order to help Jacques and Nick in their preparation for the race," Robert says about his tasks as a test driver. "I've never been to Australia but I've heard a lot of good things about Melbourne, so I'm really looking forward to this third race of the year."
