Visa RB hopes for more points after a string of impressive results

Following a string of impressive results in the last three races, the VISA RB team aims to add further points to its points tally at this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix.

Daniel Ricciardo has displayed an improved form since he received a new chassis at the Chinese Grand Prix. The Australian scored his first points in the sprint race at the Miami Grand Prix, finishing fourth in the 100km dash.

However, he has failed to add points to his tally since then, but he aims to get back into the top ten at the venue of his first career F1 victory.

“I love Montréal, the place, the track and I’m really excited to go back there. It has some special memories; this year will be ten years since my very first Formula 1 win at this track.

"Of course, I missed the race last year so I’m more than ready to have a good weekend and get some more points on the board. Maple Syrup, Poutine and some good times!”

His team-mate Yuki Tsunoda has had a much more impressive season so far. The Japanese driver scored his first points in Round 3, finishing in P7 in Melbourne before ending up tenth in his home grand prix.

Although he retired from the China F1 race, he bounced back in the next round to score points in three consecutive races. The highlight of his year has been the qualifying session in Imola where he was able to get himself into the mix of the top drivers in Q2.

Expanding on his feelings ahead of the weekend, the Sagamihara-born driver added: "I’m looking forward to Canada, first of all, because I love Montréal itself. I’m spending a couple of days here with some friends before the race. As much as I like the track, I’ve never scored points here, so that is definitely my number one goal for this weekend.

"Two weeks ago, I managed to score points in Monaco for the first time, so I’d like to tick off another circuit where I haven’t scored yet. The team is working really well at the moment, it’s coming together well so we just need to keep focusing on ourselves and push hard for Q3 on Saturday and more points on Sunday.”

The Montreal Grand Prix takes places on the man-made island of Notre-Dame where stability under braking and traction coming out of the chicanes and the slowest corners are key to be competitive.

Ahead of the Montreal round, Racing Director Alan Permane stressed that it will be key to find the right setup for the car on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve that poses a unique requirement due to its low-speed corners and high kerbs.

“After a short two weeks in Europe, we return to North America for the Canadian Grand Prix. Set on a manmade island in the St Lawrence Seaway and against the backdrop of downtown Montréal, the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve is a firm favourite amongst both drivers and teams.

"The track demands somewhat of a compromise in car setup with low-speed corners and kerbs requiring compliance but also quick changes of direction that need a stiffer, shaper car. The long straights mean a reduction in drag level from recent races. We look forward to extending the points-scoring streak of our 2024 car, the VCARB 01.”
