Jordan denies that Newey would have rejected Ferrari's offer
Former Formula One team owner Eddie Jordan insists that Red Bull's star designer Adrian Newey is yet to decide where he will continue his career after leaving the Milton Keynes-based outfit.
Adrian Newey announced his departure from Red Bull on the 1st of May. The news broke exactly on the 30th anniversary of the death of three-time F1 champion Ayrton Senna.
Newey later explained that he did not want to choose this day to announce his looming departure from Milton Keynes, but such was the speculation around his future that he was forced to clear the situation.
Since the announcement, the speculation around Newey's future has been immense. The Briton has suggested on multiple occasions that he might take a short break before he commits himself to a new project, indicating that it might be another spell in an F1 team.
Speaking of Newey's future, former race driver David Coulthard, who worked with the star designer at McLaren, recently excluded Ferrari and the Woking-based outfit from the possible options for Adrian Newey’s future in motorsport.
According to the 13-time F1 race winner, Newey will join Aston Martin: “A senior source told me he won’t go to Ferrari, and it wouldn’t make sense for McLaren to take Adrian Newey now that they have already figured out how to make the car work properly.”
However, former F1 team owner, Eddie Jordan, who is believed to work as Newey’s manager denied that the designer has already made up his mind regarding his future.
“These are inaccurate and unrealistic reconstructions of the events," Jordan referred to Coulthard's statements.
"Adrian Newey is still in the middle of the decision-making process, and at this moment he is enjoying his free time, experiencing things he previously couldn’t due to professional commitments.”
“What is certain is that it is now too late for Red Bull to change Adrian Newey’s mind by keeping him in Milton Keynes with a new contract," concluded Newey.
