Red Bull will evaluate driver pairings for 2025, claims Marko at Jerez
Red Bull's Motorsport Advisor Dr Helmut Marko insists that the team will continue with its current line-ups at both its teams, but it will review the situation for next season.
Over the course of Belgian Grand Prix, it had emerged that the Austro-British team is set for a crucial meeting this Monday to decide over the drivers who will partner Max Verstappen at Red Bull and Yuki Tsunoda at the Visa Cash RB team.
Last Sunday, Horner confirmed that his team would assemble on the next day at Red Bull's headquarters, but he denied that it would be an extraordinary meeting.
There were and there are still a number of options on the table as far as Red Bull’s four racing drivers are concerned. It is still possible that despite the speculations, the reigning champion outfit could continue with an unchanged line-up at both teams.
But Daniel Ricciardo, who endured a woeful start to his season, could be dropped from the Faenza-based outfit.
However, should the Australian convince Red Bull about his potential, he could snatch Perez's seat away to partner Verstappen again at the Milton Keynes-headquartered squad.
Perez's career at Red Bull has also been hanging in the balance for several months. The Mexican started off this year in a strong fashion, taking four podium finishes in the opening five races. However, his performance faded as the season progressed, and found himself knocked out of the first qualifying segment on multiple times.
With McLaren having displayed a rejuvenated form and closed the gap to Red Bull in the Constructors' Championship in recent weeks, the team is standing under immense pressure to help Perez lift his performance.
The real headache for Red Bull is the fact that there are several drivers in the background who have impressed the team and are eager to step up into Formula One. The obvious candidate for an F1 seat is Liam Lawson.
Red Bull continues to rate the Kiwi highly who impressed with a successful DTM campaign with a Red Bull-Ferrari and most recently showing eye-catching performance when he stood in for Ricciardo last year after the Australian picked up a wrist injury during a practice crash at Zandvoort.
A further complication for Perez and Ricciardo is that Red Bull's F2 driver Isack Hadjar has also stepped up his game recently, having won three races this year and taken three other podium finishes. The French-Algerian driver currently leads the drivers' standings in F2, sitting 36 points ahead of McLaren-backed Gabriel Bortoleto.
No change for now
On Tuesday, a Red Bull spokesperson confirmed that Milton Keynes-based operation would stick with Sergio Perez and will field unchanged line-ups in their works team and sister squad RB when the Formula 1 season resumes at Zandvoort after the summer break.
Following the crucial meeting, Red Bull Motorsport Advisor Dr Helmut Marko travelled from Great Britain to Jerez, Spain for a so-called "driver search".
"It's like a swarm of bees here," said the Austrian, describing the activity on the track, which seemed overcrowded with 30 young drivers in Formula 4 cars.
Regarding the Red Bull situation, he noted: "Perez is staying. We want to get him back to his old form. Ricciardo is staying too. Nothing will change."
However, Marko hinted that while the two driver line-ups are set to remain intact until the end of the current season, the team will review the situation ahead of the 2025 F1 season.
"The cards will be reshuffled for 2025," the Austrian is quoted as saying by German publication f1-insider.
