Singapore Grand Prix is a milestone for McLaren, claims Stella
On the back of McLaren's latest triumph, the Woking-based outfit's team boss Andrea Stella labelled the Singapore win as a milestone for the team given its impact on the drivers' and teams' championship.
McLaren driver Lando Norris has been in dominant form all through the weekend in Singapore, with only Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc having been able to challenge him. However, with the Ferrari driver having encountered issues with tyre temperatures in qualifying, Norris was left alone at the front of the field.
The British driver, who took his maiden win at this year’s Miami Grand Prix, did not hesitate to secure his third F1 victory on Sunday, claiming the McLaren’s fifth triumph in 2024. His team-mate Oscar Piastri started from P5 on the grid, but managed to climb up the order to finish on the lowest step of the podium.
Reflecting on the Singapore Grand Prix, McLaren team boss Andrea Stella said that the strong performance of the MCL38 gives the team hope that it will be able to finish the season on a high.
“A fantastic evening here in Singapore with a dominant victory for Lando, and Oscar managing to recover a couple of positions and finishing in P3. Achieving back-to-back victories is another milestone for us.
"The car was strong all weekend, making us optimistic for the rest of the season. We extend our lead in the Constructors’ Championship, and Lando reduces the gap to Max in the race for the Drivers’ Championship.
“I would like to once again take this opportunity to thank everyone at McLaren and Mercedes HPP for the incredible job they’ve done to deliver such a fast car. I’d also like to thank our partners and our fans for being with us on this journey.
"We will take time to celebrate our achievements today before switching our focus tomorrow to the upcoming triple-header," concluded Stella.
