Pirelli announces tyre selection for Austin, Mexico and Sao Paulo

Formula One's sole tyre supplier Pirelli has announced the tyre compounds it will supply to the forthcoming three races that will take place in Austin, Mexico City and Sao Paulo.

Pirelli has confirmed the compounds that will be available for the long leg of the season on the American continent, with three races in three countries on consecutive weekends, two in North America and one in South America.

For the Formula 1 Pirelli United States Grand Prix 2024, which takes place in Austin from 18 to 20 October, the following compounds will be used: C2 as P Zero White hard, C3 as P Zero Yellow medium and C4 as P Zero Red soft, the same selection as last year.

Mexico City (25-27 October) and Sao Paolo (1-3 November) will both feature the three softest compounds in the range: C3 as P Zero White hard, C4 as P Zero Yellow medium and C5 as P Zero Red soft.

While the choice for the circuit dedicated to the memory of the Rodriguez brothers, Pedro and Ricardo, is identical to that in 2023, moving onto the Interlagos track, it represents a change.

In Brazil in 2023, the teams could use the C2 as Hard, the C3 as Medium and the C4 as Soft. The hardest of these was never used, with all drivers running a two stop race alternating the Medium and Soft. One step softer therefore should offer more strategy choices.

Furthermore, there is some resurfacing work being carried out at the Brazilian track which adds another set of unknown factors. Friday will therefore be more important than ever to evaluate tyre behaviour, while keeping in mind that grip levels will change very quickly over the course of the whole weekend.
