Bearman to replace unwell Kevin Magnussen on Friday
Just two hours before the start of the opening practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, Haas has announced that Ollie Bearman will replace Kevin Magnussen at the team for the first day of the weekend, after Magnussen reported feeling unwell.
With the Sao Paulo Grand Prix featuring a sprint weekend format, drivers will only have a single practice session before the action continues with the sprint qualifying.
The Kannapolis-based F1 outfit has now revealed that Kevin Magnussen reported feeling unwell, and the Dane will not be able to take part in Friday's two competitive sessions. It means that Haas will call on reserve Oliver Bearman to drive in his place, who will fulfil driving duties in today's sole one-hour practice session and the short sprint qualifying.
Although the American team has not confirmed that the British driver, who will compete for them alongside newcomer Esteban Ocon in 2025, will race during the entire race weekend, the sprint format would make it difficult for the team and Magnussen to return to action from Saturday.
The American team noted: "MoneyGram Haas F1 Team driver Kevin Magnussen will not participate in Friday’s track running at the São Paulo Grand Prix after suffering with sickness.
"Official reserve driver Oliver Bearman will take over driving duties. The team wishes Kevin a quick recovery and will provide a further update in due course."
