Alpine sign engine deal with Mercedes for 2026 F1 season

Formula One's French outfit, Alpine has announced a new partnership with Mercedes, with the German manufacturer set to supply power unit to the Enstone-based outfit from 2026 until at least the end of 2030.

Following months of speculation and a protest from Renault F1 employees at the Italian Grand Prix, Renault made the final decision regarding its presence at the pinnacle of motorsport last month, electing to leave the sport. The decision has left its sister company Alpine without a power unit from 2026.

The decision marks the end of a long, impressive era for the French manufacturer. Alpine has now announced a deal with Mercedes which will involve taking a supply of their power unit and gearbox from the start of 2026.

The Enstone-based outfit will continue to manufacturer their own power units through the 2025 campaign before switching in 2026, when sweeping new power unit rules – that feature a greater focus on the battery and use of 100% sustainable fuels – will be introduced.

The French team said in a short statement: “'BWT Alpine Formula One Team, Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains, and Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix have entered into Power Unit and Gearbox Agreements from the start of the 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship.

"The multi-year agreement will see Mercedes-Benz supply BWT Alpine Formula One Team with Power Units for the duration of the new regulation era, from 2026 until at least 2030. Alongside the Power Unit, BWT Alpine Formula One Team will also be supplied with Mercedes gearboxes from the 2026 season.

"The team remains focused on performing in the strongest way possible in the 2024 and 2025 seasons."
