Another strong showing in session two
In the second free practice session for the San Marino Grand Prix, the BMW Sauber F1 Team continued its preparations for the remainder of the weekend, with test driver Robert Kubica once again being third quickest.
Unlike session one, the BMW Sauber F1 Team GP regulars, Nick Heidfeld and Jacques Villeneuve, actively joined Robert in the second session to continue the preparations for the qualifying and the race. The Pole was again clearly busier than his team mates and completed 31 laps. While completing four stints, consisting of two long-runs and two short, he improved consistently, setting a personal fastest lap time of 1:25:421.
Nick, whose engine is contesting its second Grand Prix weekend, completed just one seven-lap stint. He improved lap by lap and a the end of the day, set a 1:26:387 lap to finish tenth.
At the same time, Jacques - who is also going to contest the San Marino Grand Prix with a 'used' BMW P86 engine - had to settle for 15th position on the time sheets. The Canadian completed two stints (seven and six laps) and set a personal fastest lap time of 1:26:797.
The fastest time of the session (1:25:043) was set by Renault's World Champion, Fernando Alonso, with Ferrari's Michael Schumacher (1:25:371) finishing second.
In tomorrow's third free practice session, Nick and Jacques will complete the BMW Sauber F1 Team's preparations.
