Vowles hopes Sainz will extract the last tenths of Williams

Ahead of his debut with Williams, the Grove-based outfit's team boss James Vowles reckons that Carlos Sainz’s renowned attention to detail help the British squad to unlock the gains that are crucial to extracting the last tenths on track.
After Ferrari announced last February that seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton will replace Carlos Sainz from 2025, the Spaniard has been linked with several outfits.
Following month-long paddock chatter, the talks ended last August when Williams confirmed that they secured the services of the three-time F1 race winner who will join the Grove-based outfit from Ferrari on a two-year agreement with options to extend.
The British squad is undergoing a rebuild under James Vowles’ watch that he hopes will culminate in a return to the sharp end under the revamped rules coming in 2026.
Speaking of the upcoming season, Vowles indicated that Sainz’s renowned attention to detail will be an attribute that helps Williams to unlock the gains that are crucial to extracting the last tenths on track.
“He’s fitting in perfectly, He’s a brilliant personality who brings not just race-winning pedigree, but this want and desire for Williams to be successful.
“I was with him and Alex [Albon] for three, four hours just talking through plans for the year. And his contributions are absolutely key for driving this team for," concluded Vowles.
