The MP4-18 to race in multiple seasons
F1 should get used to the sight of McLaren's new MP4-18, because technical director Adrian Newey won't be designing another racer for 'quite some time.'The highly-respected Englishman says the radical contender, which will be delayed until at least the ninth GP of 2003, will race well into next year, too: 'Don't think it'll do just eight races,' he smiled. 'It's difficult to say whether what we're doing will become standard, but we certainly won't have a brand new car for 2004.' Newey also says the first drawings of MP4-18 were started in April 2002 and he is not planning another car yet.Even more teams are likely to carry their contenter into 2004, with both the Brackley-based outfit BAR-Honda, as well as Jaguar Racing, say they intend to race the 2003-spec contender into '04.
