JV wants to stay with BMW but Toyota is interested as well
Jacques Villeneuve, the 1997 World Champion, wants to stay with the BMW Sauber F1 Team in 2007. Team boss Mario Theissen declared at Silverstone this weekend that he will only decide on the drivers line-up at the end of the season, but the Canadian does not want to wait that long.
Villeneuve only got a BMW Sauber F1 race seat this season because the team couldn't afford to break JV's contract with Sauber. The Canadian, though, proved in the last 8 races that he is a driver with a lot of value for the BMW Sauber F1 Team as he was able to score points and to perform well.
Villeneuve would have been offered a contract with Toyota. It is rumoured that Trulli, who's contract expires at the end of the season, will retire from F1 and Jacques would be one of the possibilities to replace the Italian in 2007.
The rumours about drivers switching teams have started really early this season due to Alonso's pre-season announcement that he will leave Renault to join McLaren.
