Productive day for Renault

After a productive opening day of running in Monza, the Renault F1 Team continued its solid progress today with long runs. Once again, it was a busy day for both drivers, as they built upon the data collected during yesterday’s running.

Giancarlo Fisichella continued his chassis set-up and engine development programmes during the morning, before spending the afternoon focusing on tyre testing with Michelin ahead of the US Grand Prix. The Italian was pleased with his day’s work and finished fourth in a time of 1’23.664.

As for Heikki Kovalainen, he continued the tyre analysis conducted yesterday, focusing on degradation having looked at short run performance yesterday. The Finn once again completed a high mileage on his way to a best time of 1’23.871, which put him fifth at the end of the session.

After a long, hot day, the team was happy with its progress – as Chief Test Engineer Christian Silk explained:” We once again completed a significant test programme today ahead of the forthcoming races. Giancarlo worked on control systems development for circuits liek Monza, and continued set-up testing for Canada. Heikki once again worked on acclimatising himself to the circuit, and then focused on long-runs for tyre development in the afternoon. Overall, the results have been very encouraging, with another productive day.”
