Ready to give 100% - Kovalainen

Heikki Kovalainen is preparing for his entrance onto the big stage. Earlier this week, the Finn was announced as Renault's 2nd race driver for the 2007 Formula One season. Heikki will have the difficult job to replace Fernando Alonso.

Heikki, you are taking Fernando Alonso’s seat in 2007. Will that be a tough job?

"That’s what people might think, but the reality is different. Next year will be a new adventure, and we will all start together. I am confident in my ability, and the team is confident in me, so it should go well. Everybody is ready to help me, and I am going to give 100%. I think we are ready to meet the challenge together."

What will be your approach?

"I think people in Formula 1 will have high expectations, but I will be taking the races one by one, and not going too fast. I want to finish the first race in 2007 and score points. The team knows me well and knows what to expect. So we are hoping for a strong season."

On Sunday, Michael Schumacher is due to announce his future plans. Do you want to see him stay?

"I think so, yes. I will be a rookie in 2007 and I would like to race against him. We have only done that once, at the Stade de France in the 2004 Race of Champions. I won that one… but I would to be able to have a re-match next year!"
