Pretty pleased! - Symonds
The Renault F1 team’s Engineering Director, Pat Symonds, spoke about qualifying just after the session. Fernando Alonso will start from 4th position on tomorrow's grid and team mate Giancarlo Fisichella from 6th.
"Pretty well. We were aiming for around the second row, and we did it. Fernando is fourth, while Giancarlo will start right behind him."
Michael Schumacher is well back. Good news?"It’s not bad news, but it doesn’t change anything in our approach. We cannot afford to underestimate the threat he represents, because the Ferraris have been very quick all weekend. We know that had circumstances not intervened, they would have finished ahead of us in qualifying."
Like in Suzuka, there was a big gap between the Renaults and Ferraris in Q1 and Q2. Will it be smaller tomorrow?"That’s a possibility. We saw in Japan, and on other occasions this year, that Ferrari were very quick on Saturday but that we could match them on Sunday. I hope that will prove to be the case again."
