Hamilton gets Rookie of the year award
Lewis Hamilton won the trophy of Rookie of the year at the 2006 Autosport Awards yesterday. Hamilton, who was recently announced as the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes second race driver for the 2007 Formula One season, was voted for by the readers of autosport.com.
Hamilton, who received the award from Eddie Jordan and Jean Alesi said:
"GP2 was a fantastic class for me. Without the opportunity to show what I could do to the F1 teams, I wouldn't be where I am today."
Lewis is now focused on his debut season in Formula One, and is relishing the challenge of being team-mate to world champion Fernando Alonso.
"We have four months to prepare," he said. "Being team-mate to Fernando will be a challenge, but he will bring a lot to the team and I will learn a lot from him."
