I hope to race in F1 for another ten years - Heidfeld

At the age of 29, and having contested 117 Grands Prix, Nick Heidfeld is one of the most experienced drivers on the Formula One grid. However, the BMW Sauber F1 Team driver wastes no time thinking about the end of his career. On the contrary, he is more motivated than ever.

"Regarding my age and my experience, I am in a very good position at the moment," says Heidfeld, who has been able to collect five podium finishes and one pole position since he began racing in Formula One. Six years after his debut in the pinnacle of motorsports, he can imagine staying behind the wheel of a Formula One car for as long as Michael Schumacher. "If things go well I hope to be able to continue racing in Formula One for another ten years, on top of the years already lie behind me."

However, Nick's experience wasn't the only reason for the successful debut season of the BMW Sauber F1 Team. Robert Kubica is the young and ambitious driver at Nick's side, who motivated the German to perform even better with his youthful energy. Nick considers the internal team competition with the 22-year-old Polish driver a positive situation: "It's better for me to compete against someone with a certain amount of speed, rather than against a slow driver," he says. "When you're up against a slow driver you can't compare anything, you won't receive any tips or hints - you're always on your own."
