Tribute to the champions at Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi was thrilled to host the inaugural Tribute to the Champions event on behalf of Formula One. The event celebrated the sport in true Arabian style, with a gathering of all the teams and many of the leading drivers, as well as the industry’s most important figureheads, including Formula 1™ Management CEO, Bernie Ecclestone to celebrate the previous season’s successes.
The star-studded affair took place in the luxurious Emirates Palace and celebrated in particular the 2006 World Champion Fernando Alonso and the Constructors’ Champion, Renault, represented by Flavio Briatore.
Prior to the Tribute to the Champions Gala Dinner, Abu Dhabi played host to its first-ever Formula 1™ Festival on Saturday, February 3, 2007. The event showcased the world’s best Formula 1™ drivers and their Formula 1™ cars to the people of the UAE.
A specially designed street circuit that stretched along Abu Dhabi’s city waterfront was the venue for the Formula 1™ showcase. The four kilometre circuit was designed to give as many spectators as possible access to the thrills of the sport and its heroes. Eight giant screens projecting all of the race action were also assembled so that fans didn’t miss a moment of the action.
