Good day for Renault

The ING Renault F1 Team enjoyed a productive second day of testing Jerez as test drivers Nelson Piquet Jr. and Ricardo Zonta continued their development work with the R27. Following on from a solid opening day, the team's Brazilian test driver duo completed the day's programme with relative ease, racking up a total of 162 laps.

After a first day of acclimatisation with his new team and the new R27, Ricardo Zonta was able to begin running a full technical programme today. His focus during this second day of testing with the team was on evaluating different aerodynamic configurations, as well as brake testing.

Team-mate Piquet focused on a set-up programme throughout the day over relatively short runs, and his programme was only disrupted by some light rainfall in the early afternoon. Nelsinho's programme produced some interesting data, which the team will hope to confirm during running tomorrow, and future test sessions.

Chief Test Engineer Christian Silk summarised the team's efforts: "We made some good progress today, particularly with Nelson's car on which we found some interesting set-up directions that we will explore further over the next tests. Ricardo is now feeling more comfortable in the car and was able to start his full programme today. He evaluated a variety of different aerodynamic configurations, but like any new driver he is still getting used to working with his new team and a new car. So far, though, everything has gone pretty smoothly, and he is doing a good job for the team."
