Glock and Vettel score points as well
Not only Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld were in action last weekend. The two test drivers of the BMW Sauber F1 Team, Sebastian Vettel and Timo Glock, entered their first season races in two different championships.
The weekend was particularly satisfying for Timo, who is battling for the title in the GP2 series in 2007. Despite technical problems in both races, the German was celebrated two second places. In his first race, he suffered a massive steering problem. In round two, a damaged rear tyre hampered his race speed. Therefore, his two podium finishes are even more valuable.
"The second places are a good result for the championship," Glock commented. "P2 was a good result for the championship, for the team, and it showed how strong we are. The only thing is that we have to get it right in qualifying now. It's still a little bit of a problem, but I think it's still possible to be strong in the race and finish every time in the top five. I'm looking forward to the next one."
BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen said: "All things considered, the result is very good. After all, Timo didn't experience trouble-free races. Therefore, his second places are outstanding."
Sebastian entered the first two races of the World Series by Renault in Monza. However, not everything went according to plan for the 19-year-old. He was able to finish the first race in fifth place following a spin. In the second race, the youngster even made it to the podium as third-placed driver - and all of this despite a collision with Mikhail Aleshin just before the end of the race.
"This weekend I wasn't fast enough yet," Vettel summarises. "But at least we were able to collect some points for the championship."
