Kubica and his idols

Many F1 drivers have idols and role models. BMW Sauber F1 Team driver Robert Kubica, on the other hand, doesn't think much of personality cults and would rather concentrate on his own abilities. There are, however, a few drivers who influenced him in the early stages of his career.

"I do not have any idols among racing drivers," confirms Kubica. "When I was in karting I used to admire Giancarlo Fisichella, and I always wanted to get to Formula One the same way he did. Now I can say that I succeeded in that."

Meanwhile, Robert is himself a member of the elite circle of 22 drivers competing for world championship points in Formula One racing. For the 22-year-old it is natural to treat all of his competitors with respect.

However, if there is one driver who has earned the particular admiration of Robert, it is the man who ended his career in 2006. "When you talk about great drivers you must not forget Michael Schumacher," he comments. "He has confirmed many times that he was the best driver of the last decade."
