Gilles Villeneuve...it's been 25 years
Today, 25 years ago, Gilles Villeneuve, one of the greatest talents of Formula One racing and one of the most popular drivers crashed during the qualifying session for the Belgian Grand Prix at the Circuit of Zolder.
On 8 May 1982, Gilles Villeneuve was catapulted out of his seat after his car was launched into the air as he made contact with Jochen Mass' car. Villeneuve was resuscitated at the circuit, but his injuries were fatal as he died in a local hospital that evening.
The world of motor racing was shocked by the death of Villeneuve. Gilles Villeneuve was an icon before his death and will remain so for the true F1 fans.
