Heidfeld aiming for flawless performance at Monaco
In the past, Nick Heidfeld has proven his great driving skills several times during the Monaco Grand Prix. The German driver was able to achieve a top ten position in five of his seven appearances in the Principality. Here, he shares his recipe for success.
"The key in Monaco is not to make any mistakes," comments the 30-year-old and looks back on two of his career highlights: "Two years ago I came second in Monaco. Last year we had a fault during qualifying, which meant I started from 16th, but still managed to pick up two championship points by finishing seventh." Heidfeld's example shows: On a track, which makes overtaking a rare achievement, a flawless performance still allows drivers to improve by many positions during the race.
The crash barriers in Monaco are the greatest enemy of the drivers. Each mistake is immediately punished, no other circuit forces so many drivers to retire. However, this is exactly what makes the street circuit on the Côte d'Azur so special. Nick says: "You can't really put into words what it's like to drive an F1 race car through the built-up streets. The ratio of narrowness to speed simply defies description, and it's something I really enjoy."
