BMW Sauber test drivers on the podium in Monaco
It wasn't only Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica who experienced a successful weekend in Monaco. The same goes for Sebastian Vettel and Timo Glock, the BMW Sauber F1 Team's test drivers. In their respective racing series they both claimed podium finishes.
On Saturday, Timo contested the fifth round of the GP2 series. This race was staged as part of the support programme to the Formula One Grand Prix. Sebastian continued the title fight in the World Series by Renault on Sunday.
As current championship leader, Timo had qualified in eighth place on the grid. Nevertheless, the German managed to score another fantastic result. Following a stunning performance in an action packed race he crossed the line in third place, thus celebrating his fifth consecutive podium finish. Timo now has 37 points to his tally and leads the GP2 series by 16 points.
On Sunday morning, it was Sebastian's turn to defend his lead in the World Series by Renault. And the former Formula BMW Germany winner did just that. In qualifying the young gun had laid the foundation for his successful race. He started from second on the grid and was able to maintain this position until crossing the line.
With a little more luck on his side, Sebastian might well have taken the win: While he was pressuring the leader, Alvaro Parente, the yellow flags were brought out as a result of an accident, thus ending Sebastian's chase for the lead. Nonetheless, the BMW Sauber F1 Team test driver can be satisfied with another podium finish that consolidates his lead in the Drivers' Championship of the World Series by Renault.
