Feeling confident - Kovalainen

By on

The Finnish ING Renault F1 Team driver, Heikki Kovalainen, is determined to build on his recent good performances in Montreal and at Indianapolis during the team's coming home Grand Prix at Magny-Cours.

Heikki, what conclusions would you draw from the last few races?

"Both the team and myself are still not where we want to be, but it’s important to acknowledge that things have been going in the right direction since Monaco. We’re closing the gap to the quickest bit by bit and that’s encouraging."

You had a good race at Indianapolis. It must have come as a relief to you after your difficult start to the season...

"It’s not a relief for me! I feel the same way as at the start of the year: I want to do better after each race; I want to score points and progress. The opening races were not really a trial for me despite what some observers may have thought."

Concerning the R27 how’s the weekend shaping up?

"The car’s still not exactly what I want it to be, but it’s a whole lot better than at the start of the season. We’ve still got to work on the overall balance and find some more grip, but the R27’s performance is more consistent. The new front wing’s been a big help in this area. As a driver I feel the front of the car much better; that gives me more confidence and allows me to push harder."
