The Italian ING Renault F1 Team driver, Giancarlo Fisichella is optimistic ahead of practice for the French Grand Prix. At Magny-Cours, the Renault F1 Team will have his home race this weekend in front of all the people working in the Renault factory.

Giancarlo, what’s your state of mind after testing at Silverstone last week?

"Actually, I didn’t take part in it but the engineers told me that it was very positive. I think we’ve made another step forward, in particular with a new floor and new rear suspension. It’s a small improvement and it’s encouraging for this coming weekend."

Two second places are your best results so far at Magny-Cours...

"It’s true it’s not fantastic. I haven’t had much luck these last two years, above all in 2005 when I stalled during a pit-stop just as I was heading for a podium finish. I’ve never had a really good result at Magny-Cours but I’ve always been very close to my team-mates in qualifying. I’m not worried."

It’s a very important race for Renault. Are you optimistic?

"It’s one race that we don’t want to mess up! It’s our home grand prix and a lot of people will be there to cheer us on including team members. So it’s going to be an important weekend. Our aim will be to get to the chequered flag and score points. We’d like to fight for a podium finish. It would be a nice bonus, but McLaren and Ferrari are too far ahead of us at the moment."
