BMW Sauber shares happiness of Glock
Timo Glock is the 2007 GP2 Series Champion. In the season finale, held at Valencia's "Circuit Ricardo Tormo", the German secured the title with a race win. For the official BMW Sauber F1 Team test and reserve driver, the 2007 season was very much a rollercoaster ride.
Over the course of the 2007 season, no other driver secured as many race wins as Timo Glock. The German made it to the highest step of the podium five times. On the other hand, he also failed to score points in five races. In the end, however, he succeeded in winning the battle against his main rival, Lucas di Grassi. Timo scored a total of 88 points while di Grassi had to make do with 77 points on his tally.
"Today, I had everything under control," the new champion said afterwards: "We experienced ups and downs this season. Therefore, I'm particularly delighted with having won today. There were so many difficult moments that I'm not even able to realise this success right now. Anyway, it's just perfect to claim the title by winning the final round of the season."
BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen congratulated Timo via TV message from Asia: "Congratulations on having won the championship," he said. "The entire BMW Sauber F1 Team shares your happiness." Furthermore, Theissen confirmed that he would be happy to rely on Timo again as BMW Sauber F1 Team test and reserve driver for the 2008 season. However, the decision will only be made during the course of the next few weeks.
With his triumph in Spain, Timo also beat a GP2 record. He now has seven GP2 wins under his belt - more than his predecessors Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton, who won the GP2 title in 2005 and 2006, respectively, and who are now successful Formula One aces.
