Silverstone to be extensively modernised

A rich in tradition racetrack will be revamped. The "Silverstone Circuit", venue of the British Grand Prix, will be extensively modernised. In the coming weeks, the management is going to publish the according plans.

With these measures, the owner of the 5.141-kilometre circuit, the British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC), responds to the ongoing criticism of Formula One Impresario Bernie Ecclestone. The goal: to secure the future of the British Grand Prix. Ecclestone has been one of the biggest slashers of the facilities he regards to be outdated. Ecclestone announced to not extend the current contract that will expire in late 2009 shouldn't the BRDC revamp the circuit.

In the coming weeks, the citizens of the communities South Nothants and Aylesbury Vale will get the opportunity to examine the exhibited plans and express their opinions and proposal regarding the planned modifications of "The Home of British Motor Racing." The public display is supposed to end on 26th November.

According to the plans, the Silverstone modernisation measures won't be restricted to the track and the pit facilities. At the same time, it is planned to also build a motor-racing technology park, an education facility, a business park, hotels, restaurants as well as housing estates. And the plans feature further attractions: a museum, an exhibition area and a new motor-racing arena.
