Hamilton crowned as most inspiring public figure of 2007 in Britain
The prestigious and uplifting Daily Mirror's Pride of Britain Awards this week voted Lewis Hamiliton as the most Inspiring Public Figure 2007. The annual ceremony celebrates the achievements of truly remarkable people in the UK, who the panel of judges and the public feel make the world a better place.
It's the biggest national event of its kind in the UK, with categories ranging from courageous children and adults to inspiring members of the emergency services, teachers and carers or careworkers who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.
At the 2007 ceremony, Lewis Hamilton was presented with the most Inspiring Figure of 2007 Award, following the sensational start to his Formula 1 career with Vodafone McLaren Mercedes.
Due to his schedule following the Chinese Grand Prix last weekend, Lewis was unfortunately not able to attend the ceremony which took place on Tuesday 9th October. However, he recorded an acceptance for the award prior to the event. This was what Lewis Hamilton had to say: “Firstly I want to take this opportunity to congratulate everyone whose extraordinary achievements have been recognised today and hope you have all had a fantastic day at the event. I would also like to thank everyone at the Pride of Britain Awards for your generosity in giving me the Most Inspiring Public Figure of 2007. It is quite an accolade and very humbling considering all the bravery, courage and generosity shown by all the other winners today, who are truly inspirational. I am just doing my job, with the support of my family and a great team.”
