Magnificent win by Barrichello (review)
A spectacular race it was in Silverstone this year, where many drivers found the guts ot overtake more cars than they had in the whole season. A second safeteycar period following a man on the circuit switched order totally, and forced Barrichello to overtake 11 cars.Montoya also drove a wonderful race, coming in second, followed by Raikkonen, who had to let pass Barrichello after a minor error. Michael Schumacher was 4th after being stuck a while behind Villeneuve, who showed his skills by keeping off several good attacks by the world champion.
After much criticism from F1 head hauncho, Bernie Ecclestone, the British GP finally commenced. Right from the start, clouds of smoke billowed from both of the Jaguars. From then on the Jaguars experienced no problem until lap, 33, when Antonio Pizzonia suffered another fatal engine problem. Also at the start, pole sitter, Rublens Barrichello, lost two spots to Jarno Trulli and Kimi Raikkonen. This loss of track position was easily explained by Rubens as, “loss of temperature on the brakes and on the tires.” Lap one provided lots of neck-n-neck action, but nothing prepared the drivers for David Coulthards inexplicable loss of his head restraint. This eventually brought on the 1st safety car, due to the head restraint elusive position on the track for the martials to remove it safely. Unfortunately for Coulthard, he was forced into a lengthy pit-stop to replace the lost item. He eventually finished 5th.
On lap 11, a crazed fan ran strolled on the track wearing a kilt and an illegible sign around his neck. All of the drivers successfully evaded the crazy man. This eventually brought on the second safety car. The crazed fan was eventually tackled and apprehended by the martials. After the safety car pulled in, Cristiano DaMatta emerged as the leader due to his pit-stop during the first safety car period. This was mainly due to the fact that all the major leaders pitted during the 2nd safety car period. DaMatta was hounded and passed by Kimi Raikkonen. Cristiano finished a strong 7th. Micheal Schumacher was stuck in the back of the pack after his “safety car” stop. He fought off Jacques Villeneuve and Fernando Alonso to finish a stout 4th. After the final pit-stops Rubens Barrichello muscled his way to the front and boldly passed Kimi for the lead. Kimi made a slight mistake shortly after and was passed by Juan Pablo Montoya for the 2nd place slot. Kimi was recompensed with third place. (Felipe Fernandez)
